I'm starting to experiment a bit with a 50 size nitro heli. Is it feasible to take good quality photos from a nitro or should I really be thinking of using an electric or a gasser?

It can be done, but keep in mind the noise, smoke, and vibration issues are greater. Green powered setups are more widely used.

Figures. I just sold my electric T-Rex. Timing is everything.

you can use a nitro bird.
it is just that it is another thing to have to deal with (the smoke). I have added some long(really long) exhaust extensions to my Trex 700s (all the way past the tail rotor). You have to keep in mind were the wind is coming from and plan your shot a bit more carefully than with an EP bird. I dont like dealing with batterypacks myself, but that is personal preference. As far as vibration, any heli has vibration and an AP bird should in particular be well balanced as far as ALL rotating parts are concerned. Also do not "hard' mount the camera to the ship, use some sort of vibration isolation system, foam, vibration mounts, bungee, something. |
